6 Creative Practices That Made My Everyday Phenomenal

We are living in the world of Overwhelm! The social media you use, the 9-to-5 job that never ends at 5, the constant pressure to chase better things - all of it is nothing but Overwhelm that consumes you! I am also an active part of this rat race, and I feel you! However, my therapist keeps telling me to focus on what I can control and not on what I can't. It felt like a cliché... until it actually made sense. I started to love the creative things I always enjoyed as a child, and made a conscious effort to do them every single day. This was my mantra to escape the ever-so-daunting overwhelm and finally choose the idea of 'Everyday Phenomenal'.

'Everyday Phenomenal' was a phrase that actress Sonam Kapoor highlighted when she got married to Anand Ahuja. What's stuck with me about this phrase is the idea of finding beauty in everyday life rather than chasing the extraordinary. It's about finding joy in life's simplest moments and nurturing a positive mindset. The best part? You can do it too! In this blog, I am sharing 6 creative practices that allowed me to feel the magic of 'Everyday Phenomenal'. You don't need fancy tools or a perfect routine to do these activities—just a willingness to show up for yourself. Let's dig in!

Turning to Gratitude Journaling

Shout-out to all the motivational podcasts that got me started on gratitude journaling! It's wild how everything shifted the moment I started noticing the small joys. Whenever I'm having a bad day, it never hurts to count the blessings I've received so far and write them down in a separate journal. To stay regular with this practice, I leaned on apps like Gratitude. Their gentle prompts helped me notice and appreciate all the little corners of my life. Even a tiny pause for gratitude in your daily routine can make a huge difference. The more consistent you are with gratitude journaling, the more reasons you'll find to feel grateful.

Mapping Meaningful Experiences

Are you someone who loves to look back on the epic experiences you've had so far? Me too! And I do that by mapping it out in my journal. Went on a trip? Paste pictures. Had an awesome meal with your friends? Paste the restaurant's bill. Went on a date? Note down the most romantic things you found about your date. Watched a feel-good movie? Attach the tickets. Keep capturing the epic moments of your life through souvenirs, photos, tickets, stickers, and all the little keepsakes that let you romanticise each experience. The more you journal map your experiences, the more complete life feels. And trust me, looking back is the best part.

Creating Offline Mood Boards

I know Pinterest mood boards are a thing! And nothing can replace the joy of looking at your aesthetically pleasing mood boards and pins. But what comes pretty close is the Offline Mood Board! I recently gave it a try and loved how it turned out. It is a highly creative way to express your vision. You can create them using printed photos, stickers, quotes, magazine clippings, or even scraps of paper that reflect your current mood or dreams. The idea is to chase a vibe, capture an emotion, or convey a future you're manifesting. I created my mood board with yellow, a colour that speaks hope to me. And it turned out to be reflecting just that, Hope!

Getting Messy with Art

I'm not someone who's great at art, but just playing around with it? Messy, colourful, and completely unfiltered? Feels surprisingly therapeutic! I picked up all the tips and tricks for this kind of creative play from Kimey's Korner. Their approach is exactly what you need to shift from everyday overwhelm to everyday phenomenal. The best part? You don't need to be an artist. Just grab a pen and paper and let your mind wander to draw whatever comes to you. Of course, there are many ways to explore and refine this art therapy activity. For that, I highly recommend checking out the content from Kimey's Korner. It's simple, helpful, and a great guide to get started.

Hosting "Living Room Dance Parties"

Yes, it's a real thing! I came across this concept in the Netflix show, Ginny and Georgia, where the character Georgia dances with her kids in the living room during tough times. They call it a "living room dance party," and it's such a fun and creative exercise to release stress. Inspired by that, I started doing it too - dancing to the OG Bollywood hits whenever I'm home alone. It's messy, freeing, and incredibly uplifting. You don't need to be a dancer to feel the joy. Just move like no one's watching, and you'll be amazed at how much better you feel. Sometimes, it's exactly what you need.

Cooking as if I am The CHEF

This final creative practice, in my opinion, is probably the most underrated one. My therapist recommended it when I was struggling to fill my weekends and felt low about spending time alone. She suggested I cook something for myself, whether it was a healthy smoothie or homemade ice cream. So, I gave it a try. It not only helped me pass the time but also made me feel more comfortable being with myself. The best part was enjoying all the delicious food I made, even though I'm not a great cook. Practice truly helps. So go ahead, revisit those saved cooking reels, start creating, and enjoy the process.

Start Creating Your Everyday Phenomenal

The beautiful thing about creative practices is that they are endless. Making your everyday phenomenal simply means engaging in activities that bring you joy. Whether it's playing with art, experimenting with recipes, or filling your journal with vibrant memories, you get to choose how your creativity shows up.

You don't need anything fancy or expensive. Just simple activities, meaningful emotions, and the right mindset to channel them creatively.

That's a wrap on the creative practices that worked for me. They may or may not work for you, but I truly hope they do. Either way, I hope this inspires you to pause, look around your life, rediscover the activities you once loved, and keep returning to them. Little by little, they can turn your everyday into something truly phenomenal.
